Saturday’s tournament roundup: No. 12 Franklin girls’ lacrosse sets the tone vs. No. 5 Bishop Feehan

After a closely-contested first half, 12th-seeded Frankling girls’ lacrosse reeled of five consecutive third-quarter goals and didn’t look back in an 11-8 Division 1 second-round upset of No. 5 Bishop Feehan in rainy Attleboro.

“We definitely set the tone on the draw,” said Franklin coach Kristin Igoe. “Our ability to win the ground-ball battle and our attackers pushing the pace didn’t let Bishop Feehan set into their zone defense.”

Senior captain Izzy Cross was the driving force, tallying six goals, sophomore Clara Blongastainer scored twice, putting her two goals shy of 100 for her career, and senior Morgan Lovell was crucial on the draw.

Despite the seeds, Panthers (19-1) played with supreme confidence, especially after beating the Shamrocks (16-4) by a goal, 9-8, in Attleboro just 10 days ago.

“We kind of felt like an underdog, but also knew we were capable of winning,” said Igoe. “So we don’t really care about being the 12-seed, honestly.”
