Bentley moves one win away from Division 2 World Series

Lefthander Pat Heber scattered seven hits over eight scoreless innings and improved to 10-0 as Bentley won Game 1 of its best-of-three Division 2 Super Regional with a 7-2 victory over Molloy at Waltham.

The senior struck out six, walked two, and hit a batter. Even though he only set the side down in order twice, Molloy only had one runner reach third base against him. The Falcons (43-14) turned three double plays behind their ace.

Jimmy Mitchell, who starred at St. John’s (Shrewsbury) broke the game open with a three-run homer in the fourth to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead. The junior from Southborough was 3 for 4 and scored three times out of the No. 9 hole.

He gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the third, scoring on a passed ball after starting the inning with a base hit.

Brendan Sencaj, a King Philip grad, added a solo home in the fifth for a 5-0 lead.

On the day he was named an All-American, Boston Latin alum Nick Pappas went 3 for 5 with an RBI. He knocked in Mitchell with a single to right center for a 6-0 lead in the sixth.

Tommy Bolton added an RBI single in the eighth, scoring Tommy Goonan, who went to Catholic Memorial.

Bentley can advance to the Division 2 World Series for the first time in school history with a win Friday or Saturday. The Falcons will be the visiting team for Game 2.
